Mr. Robert P. (Bob) Sanders age 85 of Fayette passed away Friday January 7, 2011 at the Fayette Long Term Care Center. Funeral Service for Mr. Sanders will be Sunday January 9, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at the Fayette First United Methodist Church with Rev. Bryan Sisson officiating. Burial will follow at the Fayette City Cemetery. The visitation will be Sunday at the Fayette First United Methodist Church from 1:00pm until 2:00pm. Mr. Sanders was born in Fayette, Al. September 12, 1925 the son of the late Sam J. Sanders, Sr. and Loudell Smith Sanders. A life-long resident of Fayette, Mr. Sanders served his country in the United States Army and later in the Air Force. He returned home and worked as an Insurance Agent working for many years with The Sanders Agency and Prudential Insurance Co. retiring in 1983. Active in Civic and community organizations he was a long-time member of the Fayette Exchange Club. An active member of the Chamber of Commerce particularly in promoting and recruiting of industry. He was one of the oldest members of the Fayette First United Methodist Church, serving on the Finance Committee, Pastor-Parish committee, and Administrative Board. He served on the City Beautifiction Committee. Mr. Sanders served for 32 years on the Fayette Gas Board and received a plaque from the Fayette Gas Board for dedicated service on the Board of Directors. He received a resolution from the State of Alabama House of Representatives for his public service. He received the Alabama Public Service Commission’s Gas Pipeline Safety Distinguished service award. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Sam J. Sanders, Jr. and William E. (Bill) Sanders. He is survived by: his wife, Betty S. Sanders of Fayette,; his sister-in-law, Gwendolyn S. Sanders of Fayette, and brother-in-law, Dr. Henry Allen Spies of Leonard, Tx. Pallbearers will be Alva Grimsely, Herb Lowe, Charles Langley, Chuck Langley, Theron Nolen,Milborn Savage, Jr., Doaks Oswalt and Bobby Mills.
