Evie Whitson

November 18, 1919 — January 14, 2011

Mrs. Evie Whitson, age 91 of Berry, passed away Friday, January 14, 2011 at Walker Baptist Medical Center. Funeral services will be held Monday, January 17th at 11:00 a.m. at Norwood Chapel with Rev. Robert Clark officiating. Burial will follow in the Willis Chapel cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m.at the funeral home. Mrs. Whitson was born November 18, 1919 in Walker Co. to the late Elzie Johnston and Alice Willis Johnston. She formerly worked for Fayette Manufacturing, Adventure Apparel, Fayette Sports Wear and the Senior Aid Program. She was a member of the Willis Chapel Freewill Baptist Church and Rhema Christian Fellowship Church. Mrs. Whitson was preceded in death by her husband, Boyd Whitson in 1985, her parents, two brothers Fred Johnston and Arley Johnston; three sisters, Ila Anthony, Alcie Pendley and Dori Frost. Survivors include two sons, Winford (Paula) Whitson of Bankston; Wendell (Darlene) Whitson of Berry; four granddaughters, Monika (Tim) Slusher of Alabaster; Wendy (Larry) Stephens of Saltillo, MS; Nicole (Ricky) Clark of Berry and Ashley (James) Woodfin of Berry; eleven great grandchildren Dean, Justin, Drake, and Josh Fowler, Ian Slusher, Lane Lassetter, Harley Langford, Austin, Skye, and Alijah Clark, and Myles Woodfin; one brother, Fletcher Johnston of Carbon Hill. Pallbearers will be Dean Fowler, Justin Fowler, Drake Fowler, Josh Fowler, Lane Whitson, James Woodfin, Ricky Clark, and Tim Slusher. Honorary pallbearers are Ian Slusher, Austin and Alijah Clark, Myles Woodfin and Carbon Hill Nursing Home. Norwood Chapel of Fayette directing.
