Karen Knight Northington

Karen Northington age 49 of Sulligent, AL passed away Tuesday, February 1, 2011 in the Northwest Medical Center in Winfield, AL. Karen was born in Lamar County to her proud parents Grady Lynn and Wynette Lucas Knight. She had lived in the Sulligent area all of her life and was a member of the Union Ridge Freewill Baptist Church where she served as the secretary clerk, Sunday school teacher and played piano. Mrs. Northington also served in the Women’s Auxiliary as secretary and served on the Sulligent Library Board. She was a graduate of Sulligent High School class of 1979 and later graduated from the University Of Alabama with a Master degree in education. Karen began her teaching career her first year in Millport, Al and later to her Alma Mater Sulligent High School where she taught Ninth and Tenth grade History. Her School activities includes: Jr. Class Sponsor, sophomore sponsor, Basketball and softball sponsor, Delta Kappa Gamma – secretary, Lamar County Academic Team History sponsor, Homecoming Committee Chairperson, S.H.S. Academic Competition Coordinator, AEA Member, past Flag and Majorette Sponsor. Survived by her Husband: Carl (Peanut) Northington of Sulligent, AL, Two Daughters: Kayla Lynn Northington and Britni Leigh Northington both of Sulligent, AL, Her Parents: Grady Lynn and Wynette Lucas Knight of Sulligent, AL, Two Brothers: David (Beverly) Knight and Joel (Patricia) Knight both of Sulligent, AL and a host of Nieces and Nephews and one Grand Niece. Services held Friday, February 4, 2011 at 2:30 PM from the Sulligent High School Gym with burial in the Gilmer addition of the Sulligent City Cemetery. Bro. Dwayne Hammontree, Bro. Edward Puckett and Bro. Thomas Scott officiating. Pallbearers: Josh Knight, Jared Knight, Ryan McGee, Josh Northington, Dustin Reeves and Jagger Eastman.
