Grover Johnson

Mr. Grover Lee Johnson, age 74 of Fayette died Saturday, February 19, 2011 at his residence. Funeral services will be held Friday, February 25, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. at Unity Grove Baptist Church with Pastor Donald Coleman and Rev. C.D. Moore officiating. The body will lie in state at the church from 12:00-1:00 p.m. Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Norwood Chapel. Mr. Johnson was born April 28, 1936 in Fayette Co. the son of the late William Clyde and Elizabeth Doughty Johnson. He was a life -long resident of Fayette and was a member of the Unity Grove Baptist Church. He retired from the PM Coal Community where he was formerly employed as an electrician. Mr. Johnson was a Veteran of the U.S. Army and a retired member of the Fayette National Guard. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two daughters, Rose Peck and Allison Johnson. Survivors include his wife, Merlean Coleman Johnson of Fayette; one daughter, Patricia Jones of Huntsville; special son, Alonzo Johnson; sister, Minnie J. Montgomery of Evansville, Indiana; seven grandchildren, Terry L. Hale II , Lakeyla M. Hale, Jarrell S. Jones, Antonio M. Jones, Jasmyne B. Harris, Jasmine S. Jones, Diamond F. Jones, and Brianna Jones; great grandchildren, Rose M. Hale, Leah M. Hale and Landon J. Kirk. Active pallbearers will be Nephews. Honorary pallbearers are Fayette National Guard and Stanley Smith.
