Mr. Leon Spruell, age 76 and his wife Sylvia Spruell, age 69 of the Boley Springs community were fatally injured in the tornado that struck the Boley Springs community on Wednesday April 27th . Joint funeral services for Mr. and Mrs. Spruell will be held Monday evening at 7:00 p.m.at Norwood Chapel. The visitation will be one hour prior to the service from 6 until 7pm at Norwood Chapel with Rev. Jared Brown officiating. A visitation will be held Tuesday evening from 6pm-8pm at Roebuck Chapel Funeral Home in Birmingham. A joint service will be held on Wednesday at 11:00am at Roebuck Chapel with burial to follow at the Forest Crest Cemetery in Irondale. Mr. Spruell was born June 21, 1934 the son of the late Rufus Nathaniel Spruell and Jesse Pauline Brown. He was the owner of Spruell Auto Sales in the Irondale area for a number of years. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Vader Elizabeth Melton; two brothers, James Hubert Spruell and Aubrey Oneal Spruell. He is survived by his daughter, Leigh McLaughlin of Moody; two sisters, Sarah Jo Miller of Birmingham and Mary Alice Glass of Pell City; three brothers, John R. Spruell of Guntersville; Rev. Clyde N. Spruell of Berry and Kenneth Wayne Spruell of Dothan; two grandsons, Christopher (Katie) Glaze and John Keith Glaze; one granddaughter, Ashlyn Nicole Glaze; one great granddaughter, Riley Rivers Glaze. Mrs. Spruell was born Jan. 12, 1942 the daughter Herald Albert Tucker and Martha Elizabeth Merrill Tucker. She worked as a controller for the Brice Building Co. for thirty years. Mrs. Spruell was preceded in death by her father. She is survived by her daughter, Leigh McLaughlin of Moody; her mother, Martha Tucker of Corning, NY; two sisters, Gail Colegrove of Knoxville, PA and Evalyn Poston of Deland, FL; one brother, Dennis Tucker of Elmira, NY; two grandsons, Christopher (Katie) Glaze and John Keith Glaze; one granddaughter, Ashlyn Nicole Glaze; one great granddaughter, Riley Rivers Glaze.
