Mrs. Janice Shook Sharpe, age 73 of Bessemer, formerly of Fayette, died Saturday, August 13, 2011 at her residence. A graveside service will be held Tuesday, August 16th at 11:00 a.m. at the Fayette City Cemetery. A memorial service will be held later that afternoon at 4:00 p.m. at the Canaan Baptist Church in Bessemer with Rev. Charles Teague officiating. Mrs. Sharpe, the daughter of the late Trevor Dorsey Shook and Beatrice Hamby Shook was born and reared in Fayette. She was a 1956 graduate of Fayette County High School. She received a Bachelor degree from the Mississippi State College for Women and a Masters degree from the University of Alabama . Mrs. Sharpe was a resident of Hoover for over forty years and formerly taught in the Jefferson County School System for thirty years. She was an avid traveler, a master bridge player and a member of the Friends of Jefferson County Library. Mrs. Sharpe was a member of the Canaan Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Sharpe. Survivors include one brother, Trevor H. Shook of Montgomery and one sister-in-law, Betty Lawrence of Hoover.
