Henry Franklin ‘Hank’ Young, a native of Fayette, AL and resident of Northport, AL departed this life on Wednesday, May 9th surrounded by loving family members. He was preceded in death by his parents Henry Jackson and Margaret Erin Bean Young. Hank is survived by his devoted wife of 39 years, Julia Ann ‘Judy’ Gartman Young, a loving daughter Annah Young Roberts (Brian), two precious grandsons who adored him, Henry Wynston and Patrick Malone Roberts, 2 siblings, Mary Margaret Young, Mobile and Glenn Jackson Young, Chipley, FL, mother-in-law, Willie Fay ‘Sis’ Gartman, Fayette, AL and special sister-in-law Becky Koss (Kenny) of Killen, AL. Hank was a quiet man of integrity who possessed a keen sense of humor and unquenchable thirst for knowledge. He was very smart and knew the Latin names of plants and trees. Everything he did was done with perfection. After graduation from Fayette Co. High School, Hank enrolled at Auburn University where he earned a BS degree in Agricultural Science. While at Auburn, one of his jobs was to care for ‘War Eagle’ and other eagles-in-waiting. Hank began work with the US Department of Agriculture, Farmers Home Administration. He worked 34 years with the government and retired as a Farm Loan Manager with the Farm Service Agency. He completed his career while in Tuscaloosa County. His hobbies included boating, fishing, fly-fishing, hunting, and turkey calling. Influenced by his father, he supported land, water and wildlife conservation. Pall Bearers are Archie Brook, Mickey Gartman, Kenny Koss, Jimmy Mobley, Herbert Newell, Larry Wright, Dr. Rick Young and Rodney Dowdy. Honorary pall bearers are the Farm Service Agency employees, Tuscaloosa County DHR, Dr. Keith DeBell, Dr. Phil Hemstreet, Dr. Gary Newsome, Dr. Anne Tsao and staff of MD Anderson Hospital in Houston, TX, Dr. Ariel Anguiano and Vicki May of the Tuscaloosa Cancer Center, DCH Home Health, NPHC staff, Inpatient Rehab of Northport DCH, and Hospice of West AL. Funeral services will be held at the Tuscaloosa United Methodist Church where he was a member, on Friday, May 11 at 1:00 p.m. with Dr. Ken Dunivant and Rev. W.G. Henry officiating. Family will receive friends at Norwood Chapel Funeral Home in Fayette on Thursday, May 10 from 6:00 – 8:00 pm and at Tuscaloosa First United Methodist Church from 12 noon to 1:00 pm prior to the funeral service. Interment will be at Fayette Memorial Gardens, Fayette, AL.
