John Allen Stokes

Mr. John Allen Stokes, age 87 of Kennedy, died Wednesday, August 29, 2012 at Generations of Vernon. Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 1st at 2:00 p.m. at Norwood Chapel. Rev. Ken Holliman, Sister Amy Lowery, Rev. Dax Lancaster and Rev. Jack Taylor officiating. Burial will be in the Caines Ridge cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Norwood Chapel. Mr. Stokes was born May 2, 1925 in Millport the son of the late Acey D.Washington Stokes and Roberta Fields Stokes. He formerly worked at the Reform Post Office. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by the mother of his children, Velina Bobbitt Stokes Gann; ten sisters, ten brothers, one son-in-law and one great grandson. Survivors include his wife, Margie Stokes, four daughters, Hilda Holliman, Karen (Ken) Holliman both of Kennedy; Marron (Buren) Wharton of Millport; Barbara (Larry) Jewell of Columbus, MS; one step-daughter Sheila (Gary) Duncan of Birmingham; one step-son, Phil Fair of Reform; one sister, Gladys Alridge of Meridian, MS; eleven grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Pallbearers are Shane Holliman, Craig Holliman, Barry Holliman, Allen Shelton, Dale Shelton, Gary Wharton. Honorary pallbearers are TSICU Trauma Unit, DCH Hospital 2nd floor, Generations of Vernon, Station 2, Hall 2.
