Mrs. Wileva Humphries Gardner, age 94 of Fayette, died Sunday, April 14, 2013 at Generations of Vernon. Funeral service will be held Wednesday, April 17, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. at Norwood Chapel with Rev. Lamar Cox officiating. Burial will be in the Oak Grove Methodist Church cemetery. The visitation will be Tuesday evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Norwood Chapel. Mrs. Gardner was born March 12, 1919 in Jefferson County, AL, the daughter of the late Cornel Augustus Humphries and Mary Luina Jordan Humphries McCarter. She worked with her husband as a cosmetologist and bookkeeper for several years. She worked as a bookkeeper for Vick Oil Company in Fayette County for 38 years. Mrs. Gardner was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Talladega. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin C. Gardner, one brother, C.A. Humphries, Jr., two sisters, Alma Black and Jo Mae Blythe, step brothers, John McCarter and Billy McCarter, step sister, Elizabeth Patty. Survivors include one daughter, Iva Gardner (Doug) Wooten of Belk; one son, Dr. William M. “Bud” (Gail) Gardner of Fairhope, AL; one brother, Ferril McCarter of Phoenix, AZ and several nieces and nephews, and other extended family and a host of friends. Pallbearers are Ricky Sexton, Michael Gardner, Brooks Wilson, Colon Cork, James Taylor, Russell Wilson, Mickey Watkins and Paul Nolen.
