Mrs. Dorothy Thomason Porter, age 87 of Fayette, died Monday, April 15, 2013 at Fayette Medical Long Term Care Center. Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 18th at 11:00 a.m. at Norwood Chapel with Bro. Robert Cox and Bro. David Wilson officiating. Burial will follow in the Kennedy City Cemetery. The visitation will be Wednesday evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Mrs. Porter was born July 9, 1925 in Greensboro, AL, the daughter of the late John Dooley and Ola Kent Dooley. She was a resident of Fayette most of her life. She formerly worked for Fayette Manufacturing Co. and the Fayette Cotton Mill. Mrs. Porter was a member of the New Beginnings Baptist Church. She worked full time, cared for her home and family, looked after her mother and helped her husband and son with the family business, The Woodyard Service Station. In her spare time, she enjoyed sewing. After retirement she became a full time Nana for her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her hobbies included working in her yard and growing beautiful flowers, quilting, knitting, and crocheting. She will be remembered as a kind, gentle person who never had a harsh word for anyone. She will be missed by all who knew her. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Clifton Thomason in 1987 and Lawrence Porter in 2011, one son, Billy Thomason in 1981, two sisters and two brothers. Survivors include one daughter, Faye (Stanley) Beavers of Fayette; one son, Jerry (Bonnie) Thomason of Fayette; one sister, Mildred Walton of Nashville, TN; one brother, Fred “Buster” Dooley of Philadelphia, MS; four grandchildren, Keith (Shelli) Thomason, Stephanie Thomason, Michael Beavers, Scott (Ginger) Beavers; nine great grandchildren, Tyler Wheat, Kaylee Toms, Klaire Thomason, Thekla Wheat, Paige Beavers, Gracie Beavers, Julie Beavers, Sally Kate Beavers and Ethan Beavers. Pallbearers are Michael Beavers, Scott Beavers, Keith Thomason, Tyler Wheat, Michael Wheat, Ethan Beavers. Honorary pallbearers are Billie Faye Booth, Leon and Charlene Hamner, Fayette Nursing Home Employees and Hospice Employees.
