Mrs. Wilma Strickland, age 85 of Berry, died Thursday, October 17, 2013 at DCH Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be held Sunday, October 20th at 2:00 p.m. at the Berry Free Will Baptist Church with Rev. Kenneth Bozeman, Rev. Raymond Fowler and Rev. Matt Weems officiating. The body will lie in state at the church from 1:00-2:00. Burial will follow in the Bethabara Cemetery. The visitation will be Saturday evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Norwood Chapel. Mrs. Strickland was born October 12, 1928, the daughter of the late Travis and Maudie Pendley Gray. She was a life-long resident of Fayette County. She was a housewife and a loving mother. Mrs. Strickland was a member of the Berry Free Will Baptist Church. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Roy William Strickland; one son, Jimmie Royce Strickland. Mrs. Strickland is survived by her son, Tommy (Jeanne) Strickland of Berry; her daughters, Shirley Key of Macon, Georgia and Barbara (Dwight) Earnest of Berry; two brothers, James “Tump” (Nelvie) Gray of Berry and David (Sherry) Gray of Cullman; twelve grandchildren twenty-seven great grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren. Active pallbearers are her grandsons: Richard Key, Steven Strickland, Jeffrey Strickland; her eldest great grandsons: Beau Earnest, Jakob Brashier, Dustin Jay “D J” Smith Clay Welch and Chad Brashier. Honorary pallbearers are George Madison and Jimmy Madison.
