John Floyd Thursby

Mr. John Floyd Thursby, age 83 of Berry, died Monday, February 3, 2014 at Fayette Long Term Care Center. Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 6, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Alta Baptist Church with Rev. Eric Milligan officiating. Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery. The body will lie in state at the church from 1:00-2:00 p.m. The visitation will be Wednesday evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Norwood Chapel. Mr. Thursby was born May 27, 1930 in Jefferson County, Alabama the son of the late Edgar and Rennie Freeman Thursby. He was a resident of Berry for the past thirty two years and was a member of the Alta Baptist Church. Mr. Thursby was a veteran of the U.S. Army. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Tommy Thursby on Sept. 24, 2009, one brother, Kenneth Thursby and one sister, Doris Brand. Survivors include his wife, Viola Brand Thursby of Berry; one daughter, Kathy (Larry) Files of Berry; two sons, Timothy (Thanna) Thursby of Union Chapel, AL and Roger (Debra) Thursby of Berry; seven grandchildren, Stashia Gurganus, Stephanie Berry, Misty Dobbins, Heather Richards, Jonathan Files, Cordell Thursby and Jeremy Thursby; five great grandchildren, Houston Gurganus, Olivia Richards, Alexus Dobbins, Lacy Dobbins and Cade Johnson. Pallbearers are Timothy Thursby, Roger Thursby, Larry Files, Jeremy Gurganus, Joshua Berry and Jonathan Files.
