Jerry Wayne Black age 74 of the Union Chapel community near Boley Junction passed away Saturday June 14, 2014 at his residence. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 17, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Norwood Chapel with Rev. Raymond Fowler officiating. Burial will follow in the Union Grove cemetery. The visitation will be Monday evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Norwood Chapel. Mr. Black was born July 12, 1939 in Tuscaloosa County, AL. He was a resident of the Union Grove community for forty years and a former resident of Northport. He was a member of the Berry Church of Christ. He was employed with the VA Medical Center for twenty years and was a member of the Boley Volunteer Fire Dept. Mr. Black was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He was preceded in death by his father, Cleon Jack Black and a special grandson, Chase Black. Survivors include his wife, Linda Gay Black; two sons, Jarrad (Rhonda) Black of Berry and Terry (Peggy) Black of Brookwood; his mother, Edith Lollar Osborn of Northport; a special granddaughter, Kaitlin Gray; grandsons, David Suggs and Brandon Black; one sister, Jenny Sue Lowery of Northport and one brother, Terry Lee (Rosie) Black of South Boston, VA. Pallbearers are Randy Black, Michael Frost, Kyle Frost, Brandon Frost, Jordan Roberts, Jeffery Pendley, Tim Lollar and Ronnie Finch. Honorary pallbearers are past employees of VA Boiler Room, Boley Volunteer Fire Dept. North River Rescue, Fayette Medical Center Home Care and Comfort Care Hospice.
