Mrs. Ruby Nell Watkins, age 81 of Kennedy, died Saturday, March 28, 2015 at Hospice of West Alabama. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 1, at Norwood Chapel with Rev. Willie Ragsdale officiating. Burial will follow in the Wesley Chapel cemetery. The visitation will be one hour prior to the service from 2:00-3:00 p.m. Mrs. Watkins was born Feb. 27, 1934 in Tuscaloosa County, the daughter of the late Hurley Locke and Maudie Tingle Locke. She was a resident of the Cody Community since 1971. She formerly worked for Vernon Manufacturing. Mrs. Watkins was a member of the Belk Worship Center. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Dean Watkins in 2008, one daughter, Peggy Nell Graham, sister, Lucille Hocutt, brothers, Earl Locke, J.E. Locke and Orville Locke. Survivors include one daughter, Sarah Jane Watkins of Kennedy; one son, Eddie Watkins of Kennedy; four grandchildren, Melanie Wheat, Nathan Graham, Israel (Tiffany) Bland and Chad Wilson; five great-grandchildren, Jagger Wilson, Hunter Bland, Eli Bland, Noah Wheat and Anna Marie Wheat; four sisters, Mary Brand of Berry; Martha Simpson of Bankston; Mildred Griffin of Corona and Betty Frost of Carbon Hill; three brothers, Eugene Locke of Winfield, Austin Locke and Dale Locke both of Bankston. Honorary pallbearer is Chad Wilson. Active pallbearers are nephews.
