Sue Stokes

SUE ROBERTS SANDERS STOKES, 88, passed away on 12 April 2016 in Inverness, Fl. She was preceded in death by her husband James Claude Stokes, Sr., parents Dewey and Eula Roberts, sister, Francis Holiman and infant brother Robert. She is survived by her son Lt Col John R. (Sandy) Sanders, Jr., USAF Ret. (Jo Ann) of Inverness Fl., Step Daughters Shirley Weeks (LATE Robert) of Crews, Al., Linda Hildreth (Emmitt) of Santa Rosa Island, FL., Step-Son James Claude Stokes, Jr., (Judy) of Beaverton, Al., 12 grandchildren, 24 Great grandchildren, and 6 Great-Great Grandchildren. Mrs. Stokes was a 1944 graduate of Winfield High School. She was the first member of her immediate family to graduate college in 1948 from Montevallo State College now the University of Montevallo with a degree in Home Economics. Mrs. Stokes taught Home Economics at several schools including Hubertville High School. She worked as a Home Economist for Alabama Power and later helped Claude with his Standard Oil Distributorship after they were married on March 17, 1964. Services will be held on Monday, 18 April 2016 at 2:00 P.M. from the First United Methodist Church of Sulligent with burial in Sulligent City Cemetery. Her body will be in state at the Church from 1:00 P.M. until 2:00 P.M. just prior to the service time. Brother Mitch Nethery officiating.
