Mary James Griffin

Mary Griffin, age 90 of Fayette, passed away Tuesday, January 10, 2017 at Fayette Medical Center. She was born in Miami, Florida and spent her childhood and youth in Thomasville, Georgia. On November 27, 1946, she married Alvin Griffin in Thomasville, Georgia and they moved to Fayette in 1948. She attended Fayette First Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school for many years. Services will be Thursday, January 12, 2017, at 2:00 p.m. at Norwood-Wyatt Chapel, officiating will be Rev. Clyde Stevens. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services in the chapel. Interment will follow at Fayette City cemetery. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edwin Kenneth James and Katie Louise Powell James; husband, Mack Alvin Griffin; daughter-in-law, Mary Ross Strudwick-Griffin. She is survived by her two sons, Edwin (Dian) Griffin of Vernon and Jimmy Griffin of Birmingham; two sisters, Helen J. Clark of Valdosta, Georgia and Betty J. Ellis of Aurora, Colorado; two grandchildren, Julie G. (Morris) Moore and Jennifer G. (Shannon) Scott of Vernon; great grandchildren, Maddie Moore, Jake Moore and Miles Scott of Vernon, AL; and a host of nieces and nephews. Honorary pallbearers will be Generations of Vernon staff and Dr. Dick Owens.
