William Dalton Gilpin, age 97 of Belk, passed away April 21, 2017. Services will be Sunday, April 23, 2017 at 4:00 p.m. at Belk Free Will Baptist Church with Rev. Larry Reynolds and Rev. Lamar Cox. Interment will follow at Wesley Chapel Methodist Church Cemetery. The body will lie in state one hour prior to service. Mr. Gilpin is preceded in death by his wife, Mamie Taylor Gilpin; and his parents, Adrian Gilpin and Edrial Watkins Gilpin. He is survived by his sister, Elsie Gilpin Porter and a host of nieces and nephews. Dalton was born January 19, 1920. He was a graduate of Fayette County High School. After retiring home from service in WWII, he married Mamie Taylor Gilpin and they were happily married for 59 years. He worked at the Fayette Cotton Mill and later retired from Centurytel. He was the mayor of Belk from 1978 to 1992. Outside of his hobbies of woodworking and gardening, his greatest accomplishment was serving the Lord at Belk Free Will Baptist Church as a deacon for over 45 years. For his love of children, please in lieu of flowers, make donations to the Belk Free Will Baptist Church Youth Department. Pallbearers are Todd Hollingsworth, Matt Belk, Colby Aldridge, Max Porter, Don Byars and Henry Morrison. Honorary pallbearers are Dr. Fred Yerby and the Senior Adult Belk Free Will Sunday School Class. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Belk Free Will Baptist Church Youth Group.
