Obituaries Share | Fred P. Burke, Jr. of Jasper, passed away on Thursday, September 2, 2010 at the age of 85. He was the owner of Collins-Burke Funeral Home, and was in the funeral business for 57 years. He served Walker County as coroner for 16 years. Before entering the funeral business he worked in the coal mines in Calumet. The family will receive friends on Saturday, September 4, 2010 at 4:00 PM at Collins-Burke Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Sunday, September 5, 2010 at 3:00 PM in the Collins-Burke Chapel, with burial at Oakhill Cemetery. Bro. Fred Lackey and Wayne Williams will officiate, Collins-Burke Funeral Home will direct. Mr. Burke was preceded in death by his Sister-Doris Jean Cole; Brothers-Albert, Howard, Tommy and Willard Burke; Granddaughter-Emily Burke Anderson. He is survived by his Wife of 64 years-Gwin Burke; Son-Michael F. Burke and wife Saundra; Granddaughter-Amy Burke Sherer and husband Ashley; Great Grandchildren-Katherine and Taylor Sherer and Preston Anderson. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the Westside Baptist Church Children or Youth Ministry.
