Albert Lamar Wise age 94 of Fayette, passed away Saturday, March 20, 2021. Funeral Services will be Tuesday, March 23, 2021 at 3:00 p.m. at Norwood-Wyatt Chapel. Burial will follow at Hopewell Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be at one-hour prior to service at the funeral home. Mr. Wise affectionately known as GG by his family, was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Louise Wise; his father, Robert Lee Wise; mother, Lou Annie Wise Bobo; stepfather, J.T. Bobo; son-in-law, Tim Whitaker; grandson, Bubba Childress, and infant daughter, Theresa Wise. GG is survived by his daughter, Barbara (Jerry) Childress of Fayette, AL ; son, Al (Laney) Wise of Columbus, MS; son, Bob (Charlotte) Wise of Vance, AL; daughter, Peggy Whitaker of Fayette, AL; daughter, Billie Jo (Jimmy) Sanders of Montgomery, AL and daughter, Kathy (Bill) Volker of Flower Mound, TX; 19 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. Joining the U.S. Navy when he was 16 years old, Mr. Wise served aboard the aircraft carrier USS Hancock in the Pacific during World War II. At the end of the war, he moved to Fayette and married Louise Bobo. He attended the University of Alabama before working at U.S. Steel in Birmingham. During this time, he also served in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve. Later he worked with the Alabama Highway Department and several private land surveying companies. GG constantly bragged about his “wonderful family”. He was well loved and set a remarkable example for toughness and overcoming obstacles. GG’s grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Fred Yerby and the staff and residents at Morning View.
