Dorothy Sands

Dorothy Sands, age 86 of Berry AL, passed away on Thursday, August 01, 2024, at Fayette Long Term Care Center. Services for Mrs. Sands will be Saturday, August 03, 2024, at Norwood-Wyatt Chapel, at 2:00 p.m. Visitation will be one hour prior to service time. Burial will be at Berry City Cemetery. Bro. Lynell Early and Bro. Steve Cannon will be officiating the service. Norwood-Wyatt Chapel will be directing the service. 

She is preceded in death by her parents; Elton, and Audra (Tingle) Pendley, her husband; Fred Sands, her brother; Sammy (Sambo) Pendley, and sister; Katie Gilreath. 

Survivors include her son; James (Chopper) Sands (Kathy) of Berry, daughter; Leah Walters (Jonathon) of Jasper, sisters; Bonnie Bozeman of Berry, Linda Vice (Lewis) of Berry, Juanita Williams (Garry) of Berry, and Patricia Gilliam of Northport, brothers; Drew Pendley (Shirley) of Berry, Bob Pendley (Sue) of Berry, Jacky Pendley of Berry, and grandchildren; Ameris Walters, and Renzo Walters. 

For several years she worked in the lunch room at Berry Elementary School. During her time there, she was known as the roll and cinnamon roll maker. According to all, she could make the best you ever tasted. Each time they were made, the principal would always go to the cafeteria as soon as the rolls came out of the oven to make sure he didn’t miss out. Upon retirement, she stopped making them entirely and stated on many occasions that she didn’t have to cook them any more. She was greatly loved by all who knew her!

Pallbearers will be Tommy Bozeman, Brian Williams, Jeremiah Chaney, Jonathon Walters, Timothy Wright, and Trent Montgomery.

Honorary pallbearers will be Fayette Medical Center Long Term Care Staff.
