Gerald Salak, age 99 of Starkville, MS, formerly of Fayette, passed away Thursday, April 14, 2022. Services will be Saturday, April 16, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. at Norwood-Wyatt Chapel with Rev. Jim Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Fayette City Cemetery. He was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel Salak; parents, Joseph and Nettie Salak; 9 older siblings including a twin sister, Geraldine. He is survived by his daughter, Linda Diane Rye (Connie); grandchildren, Danielle Rea (Derek), Nolan Couture (Chrissy); and great-grandchildren, Gemma Couture, Lola, Jacob and McCartnie Rea. Mr. Salak was born December 23, 1922 and grew up in Schuyler, Nebraska. He married Hazel in 1950 and they were married for 72 years. They died 8 days apart. Mr. Salak was an avid yard keeper and his favorite hobby was mowing the lawn. He was a baseball fan of the Detroit Tigers and St. Louis Cardinals. Mr. Salak worked and retired as a truck driver for White Star Trucking. Pallbearers are Derek Rea, David Hindman, Brad Burroughs, Ethan Sherman, Will Thompson, and Donald Puckett. Honorary pallbearers are the ushers of the St. Louis Cardinals (Mr. Salak’s grandson-in-law is an usher for the Cardinals).
