Hazel Salak, age 90 of Starkville, formerly of Fayette, passed away Tuesday, April 5, 2022. Services will be Friday, April 8, 2022 at 3:30 p.m. at Norwood-Wyatt Chapel with Rev. Scott Davis officiating. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Fayette City Cemetery. She was preceded in death by her mother, Verda Landers Shepard; father, Emmett Shepard; and brother, Rayford Shepard. She is survived by her husband of 72 years, Gerald Salak; daughter, Linda Rye (Connie) of Starkville; grandchildren, Danielle Rea (Derek) of O'Fallon, IL, Nolan Couture (Chrissy) of Northport; great-grandchildren, Gemma Couture, Lola Rea, McCartnie Rea, and Jacob Rea; and sister, Christine Grizell of Fayette. She was a longtime resident of Fayette before moving to Starkville in 2007. During her time in Fayette, Hazel was an active member of the Fayette First Baptist Church and loved the Lord with all her heart. Pallbearers will be Nolan Couture, Derek Rea, Donald Puckett, William Thompson, David Hindman, and Will Thompson.
