Howell ‘Hal’ Booth Holland III, a vibrant and spirited 21-year-old, passed away unexpectedly on July 27, 2024. Born and raised in Vestavia Hills, Alabama, Hal was a beloved son, brother, and friend.After the family moved to Fayette, Alabama, Hal forged many great friendships. His wit, laughter and warm smile drew people to him. Hal learned he had a deep passion for travel when he went to work at Yellowstone National Park for a short seasonal position. While there he explored the breathtaking scenery and nurtured his love for the outdoors and adventure. Following his time out West, he traveled to Boston, a city he had hoped to return to visit again. He was also making plans for an excursion to Colorado.
Hal was an avid athlete, playing both competitive and recreational basketball and baseball. He also loved reading novels, and working to master the game of chess, especially enjoying challenging his grandmother to a match. Regardless of what the game was, Hal enjoyed competition, and his gamesmanship and spirit made these times special and unforgettable for those around him.
Hal is survived by his loving parents, Howell Booth Holland, Jr. and Jeannine Holland; his brother Hudson; his grandmother, Bobbie Holland of Vestavia Hills; and aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends who will forever cherish his memory.
He is preceded in death by his grandfather, Howell Booth Holland and grandparents Dr. and Mrs. Jerry D. Young.
His spirit and zest for life will be deeply missed, but his legacy of love, laughter, and adventure will continue to inspire those who knew him.Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. at Fayette First Methodist Church on August 10th with a memorial service to follow at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to Fayette First Methodist Church, ℅ Hal Holland, III Memorial Fund.
