Janelle Baty Avery, age 69, of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, passed away November 9, 2018. She was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. William C. Baty, Jr. and Sylvia Baty and brothers, John and William ""Tony"" Baty.She is survived by her husband of 20 years, Sammy Avery of Tuscaloosa; sister, Sylvia Baty Smith; sons, Steve (Donna), Jonathan ""Jon"" (Jaime), Tony (Amanda) and David Sturgis, daughter, Heather Edwards; grandchildren, Kali and Jarred Sturgis, Dawson and Christian Sturgis, and Zachery, Joshua and Jacob.Janelle was a devoted Catholic, loving wife and selfless mother. She devoted much of her time to Catholic ministries, friendships and artwork.Her interests included calligraphy, painting, writing and cooking. She was known as the ""Egg Lady"" for her beautiful and prolific Pysanky egg art. Her adventurous spirit and creative energy amazed everyone she knew.Janelle was blessed with numerous friends, loved by all and she left everyone she met feeling loved and encouraged. Her hearty laugh and steadfast devotion will never be forgotten.Services will be held at St Francis of Assisi Catholic Church on Tuesday, November 13, 2018. Visitation will be held at 2:00 p.m. with funeral mass following at 3:00p.m. Norwood-Wyatt Chapel Funeral Home is directing.In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Catholic Social Services of Tuscaloosa, St Francis Catholic church or a charity of choice.
