Jeneil Lowrey

August 15, 1932 — January 30, 2021

Jeneil McCaleb Lowrey, 88, of Fayette, Alabama, passed away on January 30, 2021, at the Fayette LTMC with family by her side. The family held a graveside service Thursday, February 4, 2021 and plans a celebration of life service at a later date. Norwood-Wyatt Chapel Funeral Home handled all arrangements. Eva Jeneil Nichols was born in Fayette to Eva Hargett Nichols and William Curtis Nichols on August 15, 1932. She graduated from Fayette County High School and married her high sweetheart, Thomas Wilburn (Hoss) McCaleb the same year. Jeneil was preceded in death by her parents Eva Nichols and William Curtis Nichols (Hattie), her husband Thomas Wilburn (Hoss) McCaleb and husband Dewey Lowrey. She is survived by her brother William Curtis Nichols (Mary Anne) of Athens, GA; niece Camille Nichols Dvorscak (Mike) of Johns Creek, GA; nephews William Mancill Nichols (Kathy) of Germantown, MD; and David Paul Nichols (Caitlyn) of Evanston, IL; and great niece and nephews Ben and Ali Nichols (Germantown, MD) and Al and Zachary Nichols (Evanston, IL). She is also survived by a number of cousins who held a special place in her heart. She was a talented seamstress and worked in the Garment Industry most of her working life including at Fayette Manufacturing, Betton Manufacturing and Lanier Clothing, retiring in August 1997. She enjoyed trips to Gulf Shores throughout her life and had a chance to explore some of California when Hoss was stationed there with the Navy. She made trips to Michigan and excursions to Canada, and later to Florida, when visiting her brother Bill and his family many summers. But the highlight of her travels was a trip to Israel with Bill and Mary Anne and Mary Anne’s mother as her roommate. She was able to experience that sense of awe walking in the places both sacred and storied to Christians in the Holy Land. As a lifelong Baptist she was able to see many sites from stories in the Bible she was familiar with since childhood unfold in front of her as they traveled. It was a faith affirming experience and she took many pictures which she loved to share. Jeneil dearly loved her dogs, who were her constant and faithful companions. She also enjoyed her garden with flowers transplanted from her grandmother’s yard, bird watching and watching the antics of the squirrels and chipmunks beneath the many bird feeders. Colored pencil art was a more recent hobby she shared with her roommate Ann, and she would never turn down a game of Dominoes. The family of Jeneil Lowrey wishes to express our sincere appreciation to the nurses and healthcare professionals at Fayette LTMC for their concern and loving care during her time as a resident, and especially during her recent illness. We are deeply grateful for each of you. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to the Fayette LTMC, 1653 Temple Ave N, Fayette, AL 35555. Gifts should be indicated as “In Memory of Jeneil Lowrey.”
