Jessie Hancock

Jessie Levenston Hancock, age 90 of Berry, passed away Monday, August 5, 2019 at home. Services will be Wednesday, August 7, 2019 at Alta Baptist Church at 1:00 p.m. with Eric Milligan and Steven Tyree officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Mr. Hancock was preceded in death by his parents, William Hancock and Ila Bennett; daughter, Shannon Christian; son, Jerry Hancock; and grandson, Kelly Hancock. He is survived by his wife, Velma Lorene Hancock; daughter, Jewel Mae Thacker; son, Charles Ronald Hancock (Sue); brother, Charles Ray Segrest (Evelyn); grandchildren, Karen Vice, Robin Gray, Christina Brasher, Tonya Milligan, and Tammie Nabors; 16 great grandchildren, and 24 great great-grandchildren. Jessie was married to Bell for 72 years. He was an ordained deacon for 46 years at Alta Baptist Church. He loved everyone he met, with all kids calling him Papa. His family was his pride and joy. Papa was happy, singing, and praising God as he journeyed home. Pallbearers will be Steven Tyree, Wesley Mordecai, Blake Tyree, Devan Tyree, Jerry Blackburn, and Devan Jones. Honorary pallbearers will be Brady Renfroe, Drew Self, Casey Hancock, and Chase Hancock.
