John Steven Shoemaker

John Steven "Steve" Shoemaker, age 68 of Tuscaloosa AL, peacefully passed away on Monday, August 13, 2024, in Tuscaloosa AL, leaving behind a legacy of resilience and a life lived on his own terms . A memorial service for Mr. Shoemaker will be Thursday, August 29, 2024, at St. Francis of Assisy University Parish Church in Tuscaloosa AL, at 2:30 p.m. Visitation will be one hour prior to service time. Norwood-Wyatt Chapel will be directing the service. 

Steve was a devoted father. He is survived by his amazing father, John Shoemaker, his two beloved sons, Robert Shoemaker and Michael Shoemaker, brother, Gregory Shoemaker, and grandkids, Zilya, Cruz, Gabriel, and Lily Shoemaker 

Born on May 14, 1956 in Cincinnati, Ohio, Steve was a man of kindness and unwavering dedication to those he loved. His life was marked by a heart that was always open to helping others. Steve was not only a father but also a mentor and a friend to those in need. Steve’s professional life was marked by his commitment to excellence. He had an accomplished career in the newspaper business where he was a comptroller and CFO for many local Alabama papers. An avid guitarist for the Catholic church band as a young adult, Steve also had a passion for golfing with his kids, dogs and hunting with his grandkids, which brought him joy and a sense of fulfillment. Steve's memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be deeply missed, but never forgotten. 

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Al-Anon Family Groups, reflecting Steve’s commitment to making the world a better place in his own quiet way.
