Julia “Judy” Gartman Young, age 69 of Northport passed away Wednesday, December 11, 2019 at Hospice Care of West Alabama. Service will be Saturday, December 14, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Norwood-Wyatt Chapel with Rev. Audie Hodges officiating. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Fayette Memorial Gardens. She was preceded in death by her parents, Hershel and Willie Fay Gartman; her husband of thirty-nine years, Hank Young; and her sister, Becky Koss. Mrs. Young is survived by her daughter, Annah Young Roberts and grandsons, Henry Wynston Roberts and Patrick Malone Roberts all of Northport; sister, Teresa Brook (Archie) of Birmingham; brother, Mickey Gartman (Elisa) of Banner Elk, NC; nieces, Ashley Brook, Alexis Fuller, Elisabeth Lindsay; nephew, Michael Gartman; as well as great nieces and nephews and extended family members. Judy grew up in Fayette and graduated from Fayette County High School. After high school, Judy moved to Tuscaloosa to attend the University of Alabama where she mastered in social work. She furthered her education at Harvard. Judy met her husband, Hank in Fayette and they married on June 9, 1973 in Fayette. Judy worked for the Department of Human Resources where she became the director of Marion County DHR and then Tuscaloosa DHR. Judy retired after working for thirty-nine and a half years at the Department of Human Resources. Judy’s greatest joy was her daughter, Annah, and her two grandsons, Henry and Malone. Judy was known for her big heart, devotion to her family, her joyful, generous spirit, and her great wit. Pallbearers will be Casey Black, Scott Perkins, Wade Mansfield, Johnny Mansfield, Jeff Farris, and Ryder Black.
