Marilyn Leggett Houts died on January 28th, 2025, at the age of eighty-eight. She was born on August 26, 1936, in Jackson, TN the daughter of Julian Earl Leggett and Ona Stapp Leggett. There will be a graveside service Thursday, February 06, 2025, at Alabama National Cemetery, at 11:00 a.m. Norwood-Wyatt Chapel will be directing the service.
She is preceded in death by her parents and her brother Michael and is survived by her husband of 64 years Ronald Carl Houts, her children Ronald Scott Houts of Scottsdale, AZ, and Katherine Houts McLeod (Michael) of Tuscaloosa, AL, and her brother Stephen Leslie Leggett (Penelope) of Orlando, Fl. She had four grandchildren who brought her much joy Robert Jones McLeod (Mani) of Washington, D.C., William Leslie McLeod of Tuscaloosa, AL. Madeline Kirby Houts of Boulder, CO, and Hannah MacKenzie Houts of Morrisville, N.C.
Mrs. Houts attended Auburn University where she was a member of Zeta Tau Alpha Fraternity and the University of Florida where she received her Bachelor of Design Degree from the College of Architecture in June1959. She taught art at St Augustine High School and after her marriage in 1960 was employed as a state Social Worker in Gainesville, FL.
Upon the birth of her son, she dedicated the next twenty years to the raising of her children and supporting her husband. She enjoyed tennis, reading, travel, volunteer work and her Sunday School classes. She moved with her husband to Florida in 1991 and they returned to Tuscaloosa in 1998. They joined First Presbyterian Church, and she became a member of the Fellowship Sunday School Class.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Hospice of West Alabama or the charity of your choice.
The family wishes to extend gratitude to Morning Pointe, Moundville Health and Rehabilitation, Hospice of West Alabama and all the individuals who have provided care during her illness.
