Marion Skinner Almon of Tuscaloosa passed away Thursday, October 19, 2023. A memorial service will be held at First Presbyterian Church on Tuesday, October 24th at 2:00 p.m. with visitation following the service. Reverend Michael R. Bailey will be officiating, Reverend Emily Frandsen assisting, and Norwood Wyatt Funeral Home will be directing.
Mrs. Almon was preceded in death by her parents, Ruby and Edgar Skinner, and husband, Mr. Robert Nathaniel Almon, Sr.
Survivors include her daughter, Julie Almon Jamison (Carl); son, Robert Nathaniel Almon, Jr.(Ree Hale); grandchildren, Carl Thornton Jamison, Jr. (Lauren Marsh), Robert Almon Jamison (Whitney Adams), Robert Nathaniel Almon, III (Katherine Landry), Bradley Almon Bailey (Charlie Bailey,IV); great-grandchildren, Carl Thornton Jamison, III, Mary Ellis Jamison, Robert Almon Jamison, Jr., Robert Nathaniel Almon, IV, Adair Grace Almon, Anne Everett Bailey and Caroline Marie Bailey; as well as her long time care giver and close friend, Fannie Smith.
Born in Berry, Alabama on August 11th, 1935, Marion attended public schools in Tuscaloosa, where she would later teach First Grade at Skyland Elementary. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in education from The University of Alabama. Marion was a loyal and involved alumna of Alpha Upsilon chapter of Alpha Chi Omega sorority. She was an active member of the House Corporation for over fifty years, and served one term as President. In honor of her dedication to the chapter, the Marion Almon All "A" Scholars award is given at the annual awards Celebration to all collegiate members who maintained an A-average during the preceding semester. She was also very active in The Junior Welfare Association and a long-time member of First Presbyterian Church where she proudly served as a Deacon and an Elder. Other than being active in her community, one of her favorite activities was playing bridge with her long time friends.
Marion was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother to the family she adored. She enjoyed reading, and most of all, studying the Bible. Her wisdom of scripture was second-to-none. She took great pleasure in instilling this knowledge in her family, and she will be greatly missed.
