Melvin C. Shackelford, age 74 of Fayette AL, passed away on Wednesday, May 01, 2024, at his residence. Services for Mr. Shackelford will be Monday, May 06, 2024, at New Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, at 1:00 p.m. Visitation will be one hour prior to service time. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Rev. I.S. Patterson Sr. will be officiating the service. Norwood-Wyatt Chapel will be directing the service.
Melvin Clarence Shackelford was born on November 4, 1949, in Fayette, AL to the late Mr. and Mrs. Walter Shackelford, Sr. He departed this life on May 1, 2024, at his residence in Fayette, AL.
He attended Covin Elementary School. Growing up, he created many memories with his siblings: Marvin (his twin), Walter, Jr., and Theresa. Prior to graduating from West Highland High School in 1968, he lettered in football and track. He later attended C.A. Fredd Technical College to study Automobile Body Repair.
He was baptized and became an active member at New Friendship Baptist Church at an adolescent age later serving as a deacon.
He married Mamie L. Cooper in 1973. Their marriage union was blessed with three sons: Melvin II, Antonio, and Derek.
Melvin was employed with Arvin Industries in Fayette, AL for 40+ years where he welcomed numerous friendships. After retiring from Arvin in the early 2000s, he enjoyed spending time with the love of his life and expanding family. He was known for his kindness, humor, and dedication.
He leaves to cherish his memories, his loving and devoted wife, Mamie Lou Shackelford of Fayette, AL; three sons: Melvin Clarence Shackelford II (Jenell) of Fayette, AL, Antonio Demont Shackelford (Cheyanne) and Derek Deron Shackelford (Rasheeda) both of Birmingham, AL; two brothers: Marvin Shackelford, Sr. of Alabaster, AL and Walter Shackelford, Jr. of Durham, NC; one sister: Theresa Sheppard of Birmingham, AL; three grandchildren: Clarissa Shackelford, Caleisha (Keonte) Shackelford, and Antonio Shackelford II; five great grandchildren: Kariya, Karter, Braylen, Kennedi and Kaisley, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
