Thomas “Mack” Espey, age 67 of Berry, passed away Sunday, December 30, 2018 at Hospice of West Alabama. Services will be Thursday, January 3, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Berry United Methodist Church with Rev. Kenneth Bozeman officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday, January 2, 2019 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Norwood-Wyatt Chapel Funeral Home. Burial will follow the funeral service at Pleasant Hill Cemetery. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service at the church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Lucile Espey; brothers, Wiley Espey and Roy Wayne Espey; and sister, Blanche Swindle. Mack is survived by his wife, Yvonne Handley Espey of Berry. Mack was born in Fayette County and lived in Berry most of his life. He was a member of the Berry United Methodist Church. He retired from Chevron-North River Mine as an Underground Supervisor. Mack graduated from the University of Alabama in 1973 and was a true Alabama fan. He enjoyed many hobbies including: hunting, fishing, gardening, and cooking. Mack also enjoyed spending time with family and friends, cooking for others and traveling. Pallbearers are Richard Baker, Larry Clements, Larry Espey, William Espey, Mike Moore, Philip Swindle, David Thacker, and Thermon Thacker. Honorary pallbearers are the nurses and staff of the second floor DCH Oncology, the doctors, nurses and staff of Lewis and Faye Manderson Cancer Center, Hospice of West Alabama, and special friend, James D. “Pickle” Waldrop.
