Othelia Thomas (Tommye) Poynor Meherg, age 80, of Fayette, passed away Wednesday, March 14, 2018. The service will be held Saturday, March 17, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at Norwood-Wyatt Chapel Funeral Home with Blake Thompson officiating. Burial will follow at Fayette City Cemetery. Visitation will be from Noon to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 17th prior to the service at the funeral home. Mrs. Meherg was preceded in death by her parents, David Thomas Poynor, Sr. and Ethel Othelia Nichols and her husband, Joe Earl Meherg, Sr. Tommye is survived by her children Joe Earl Meherg, Jr (D’Aun) of Elmore, Wayne Meherg (Teresa) of Fayette, and Katherine Diggs Meherg of Gadsden: Grandchildren Hannah Elise Meherg of Elmore, Judson Wayne Meherg (Anna) of Mobile, Nikki Holliman (Shane) of Belk and Matthew McDonald (Katie) of Fayette; Sister Mary Ellen Poynor James (Hunter) of Winston-Salem, NC; Brother David Thomas Poynor, Jr. (Paula) of Cullman; Great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews and many more family and friends. Tommye was a long-time resident of Fayette and held many positions in the community including nurse, kindergarten teacher, bookkeeper and more.
