Velma “Bell” Loren Hancock, age 93 of Berry, passed away Sunday, June 5, 2022. Services will be Tuesday, June 7, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at Alta Baptist Church with Bro. Eric Milligan officiating. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow the service in the church cemetery. She was preceded in death by her parents, Houston and Sallie Brand; husband, Jessie Hancock; son, Jerry Hancock, daughter, Shannon Christian; and grandson, Kelly Ronald Hancock. Ms. Hancock is survived by her daughter, Jewel Mae Thacker; son, Charles Ronald Hancock (Sue); sisters, Viola Kathleen Thursby, Evelyn Ruth Segrest (Charles) and Birdie Marie Sanford; brothers, William Joe Brand (Janice), Houston Brand, Jr. and Robert Neal Brand (Hollie); grandchildren, Robin Gray (Danny), Karen Vice, Christian Brasher (Brandon), Tonya Milligan (Eric) and Tammie Nabors (Pogie); 16 great-grandchildren and 33 great-great-grandchildren. Velma was one of fourteen children born in Flat Creek, AL with a love to draw and color. She was married for 72 years to Jessie Hancock. She was a member of Alta Baptist Church. Many times, you could hear her singing those old church hymns as you would walk up to visit. She enjoyed those visits and there was always an open invitation to just sit down at the table to eat. She loved her family. Pallbearers are Wesley Mordecai, Steven Tyree, Blake Tyree, Drew Self, Devan Tyree, Devan Jones, Brady Renfroe, Jerry Blackburn, Chase Hancock and Casey Hancock.
