Verlie Maddox, age 97 of Northport AL, passed away on Wednesday, August 28, 2024, at Forrest Manor Health and Rehab Facility. There will be a graveside service for Mrs. Maddox Saturday, August 31, 2024, at Memory Hill Gardens Cemetery, at 10:00 a.m. Bro. Ken Salley will be officiating the service. Norwood-Wyatt Chapel will be directing the service.
She is survived by her son; Gary D. Woods, Sr. (Paulette), a grandson; Gary D. Woods, Jr, granddaughters; Christina Michele Crowder (Chris), Victoria Brooke Crowder, Carli Grace Crowder, Salley Elizabeth Crowder, two grandsons; Daniel Paul Woods (Izzy)and Mason Drew Woods, Jonesboro, Arkansas, great-great granddaughter; Paisley Kate Crowder, and step granddaughter; Angel Maddox, Beaumont, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her husband; James Wyman Maddox, stepson; Clifford Stanley Maddox, step grandsons; Cliff Maddox and Kevin Maddox, her parents; Samual Mullinax, her mother; Maude South (John) of Fayette, AL, two sisters; Glady Kilgore, Bessemer, Al and Agnes Allen, Fayette, Al, and one brother; Samual (Red) Mullinax of McCalla, AL.
Miss Verlie was born May 9, 1927. She was affectionately called came to Tuscaloosa in 1951 from Berry, Al and went to work at Bryce Hospital. There she met Wyman and were Married in 1953. They purchase a small community grocery store on the Eutaw Highway and operated it for 15 years as Maddox Grocery. During this time, she and Wyman made lifelong friends in the community and retired in 1982. Mom then went to work at JC Penny and were loved by the Company and her customers.
She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
