Virginia Jacobs Burns, age 93, of Knoxville, passed away December 28th, 2024, in Northport, Alabama. Services will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, January 4th, 2025 at Bethel Baptist Church with Robert Burns officiating. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to the service. Burial immediately following in the Church cemetery with Norwood-Wyatt Chapel Funeral Home directing.
Virginia was born December 14th, 1931 and spent most of her life in and around Knoxville. She was a member of Bethel Baptist for most of her life. She and her family operated a small general store across from their home for over 30 years. She was known for keeping a clean house, her good food and being a prayer warrior for family and friends. She enjoyed spending time with her family; especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Her strength and determination were evident in the last years of her life as she faced health issues with resolve and grace.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William Jacobs and Callie Marcum Jacobs, her husband, Thornton Burns, her siblings: William Jacobs, Lela Dell Crocker, Murphy Jacobs, Moody Jacobs, Seaborn Jacobs, Gladys Jacobs, A.J. Jacobs, son-in-law Rick Jarman and daughter-in-law Roena Burns.
She is survived by her children, Robert T. Burns (Vicki), Deborah Jarman, Karen Hawkins, Stan Burns (Yro), her grandchildren, Robb Burns, Jason Wyatt (Buffy), Ryan Burns, Yra Coleman (Chad), Jennifer Smith (Chad), Jacob Jarman (Mallori), Danielle Watkins (Wayne), Stanley Burns, and Blake Burns, her sister, Louise Dill, her sister-in-law, Juanita Jacobs, her great-grandchildren: Robby Burns, Ari Williams, Leo Williams, Taylor Graves, Parker Graves, Eleanor Jarman, Amelia Jarman, Drew Killgore (Miranda), Zach Romain, Colton Watkins, Cason Watkins, Mary Grace Wyatt, Avery Wyatt (Harlee), Emma Wyatt, great-great-grandchildren Rilee Rackard, Aiden Romain, Grayson Hallman and Sydera Hallman, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons. Honorary pallbearers are members of Bethel Baptist Church and the friends and neighbors of the Knoxville and Ralph communities.
Her family would like to extend a special thank you to Aretha Chaney her long-time care giver, the Nurses, CNA’s and staff of Forest Manor Nursing Home Station 2, the Nurses, CNA’s and Staff at Forest Manor Rehab, Physical Therapy, and Allyson and staff of ACG Hospice.
