Harold was born in Columbia, Missouri in 1951 and grew up in rural Walker County Alabama. Harold was a 1971 graduate of Carbon Hill High School where he was an All-State Tight end. Additionally, Harold stood out on the basketball court and baseball diamond. He continued this love of sports after high school by playing in recreational softball tournaments as well as teaching his kids how to play the games of baseball, basketball, and football.
After graduation he worked various jobs on his family’s dairy truck and as a long-haul mail truck driver but eventually found his calling in the underground coal mines. Harold worked for Jim Walter Resources as a Longwall Forman for over 40 years and was known for his hard work ethic, intellect of the business, dedication to his men, and dependability. Harold also enjoyed cutting pulp wood with his son and friends to make a little extra money for his family. Later in retirement he turned that into cutting firewood.
Harold loved his cows and he was known to have a special ability to call them and interact with them like pets. Harold could simply look at a cow and tell you when it was going to have its calf. He loved spending time out there with them, caring for them, and teaching his kids, grandkids and eventually great-grandkids all about them.
Harold’s biggest passion by far was for his family, which he loved like no other and was fiercely protective of all of them. If you were a close friend, you were family to Harold. He loved interacting with his grandkids and great grandkids teaching them the things he knew and passing his passion for sports onto them. This passion was evident in the fact he never missed an Auburn or Atlanta Braves game. He would always be in front of the TV ready to watch and to cheer them on and he would get so worked up that he couldn’t sleep sometimes. He is cheering them on passionately now from his heavenly living room.
Pallbearers will be Jacob Jones, Lucas Kimbrell, Landon Kimbrell, Noah Sapp, Greg Harville, Martin Vintson, Chris Jacks, and Tyler Jacks.
