D. L. Collins

Funeral services for Mr. D.L. Collins, age 89 of Fayette, will be held Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at the Fayette First United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Fayette Memorial Gardens cemetery with Norwood Chapel of Fayette directing. The visitation will be one hour prior to the service from 10-11 a.m. D.L. Collins went to be with Jesus on December 19, 2010. He was born on September 30, 1921 in Fayette, AL. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and friend. Mr. Collins served our country in the U.S. Army during WWII and received a Purple Heart. He served the town of Fayette as a wonderful and trustworthy businessman for over fifty years. He owned and operated Weems Furniture and several years later, Collins Furniture until the time of his death. Mr. Collins was preceded in death by his first wife Hazel Taylor Collins and his son, Danny Collins. He is survived by his wife, Ellie Taylor Collins; daughters, Cheryl C. Allen (David) and Sharon C. Nickols (Wayne), his son, Jimmy Joe Holsonback (Donna); grandchildren, Lisa Thornton, Tracie Johnson, Chris Franks (Mandy), Julie Moore (Derrik), Michael C. Allen (Claudia), Suzanne Allen, Nick Collins, Jana Holsonback, Julie Holsonback, and Jay Holsonback; great-grandchildren Matthew Johnson, C.J. Thornton, Max Thornton, Alei Thornton, Sophie Allen, Collin Allen, Emma Franks, Hudson Franks, Brady Moore, and Lucas Collins; great- great grandchildren Will Thornton and Daniel Thornton. Pallbearers will be Michael C. Allen, Chris Franks, Derrik Moore, Jeff Taylor, Blake Taylor, Clay Taylor, C.J. Thornton and Dr. Chris Taylor.
