Dorothy Poole

Dorothy Ann Poole, age 77 of Fosters, passed away Thursday, August 18, 2022. Services will be Saturday, August 20, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at Bethel Baptist Church. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Eugene Poole; infant son, Kurtis Poole; parents, James Floyd Ballard and Francis Ina Allen Ballard Lunceford; brothers, James Ballard and George Ballard; brother-in-law, Owens Poole; special cousins, Charles Poole, Fred Mozingo and Joyce Campbell Fields. She is survived daughter, Cynthia Ann Shrum (Jerry) of Tuscaloosa; sons, Gary Eugene Poole (Stephanie) of Fosters and William Howard “Bill” Poole (Marilyn) of Fosters; sister, Polly Ballard Snipes of Fosters; sisters-in-law, Margaret Boswell Ballard Dorsey of Fosters, Catherine Ballard of Emmett, Idaho; Yvonne Ballard of Northport, Mary Poole of Dancleave, MS, Carylon Steward of Northport; brother, Thomas “R.T.” Ballard of Northport; brother-in-law, James Stewart of Northport; grandchildren, Todd Shrum, Patrick Shrum, Brandi Garner, Nathan Poole, Megan Bowers and Josh Poole; and great-grandchildren, Piper Shrum, Christopher Garner, Nova Jean Garner, Rhett Poole and expected baby Bowers. Ann was baptized at an early age at her home church, Grants Creek Baptist Church. She graduated from Tuscaloosa County High in 1963 and quickly married the love of her life, Gene. Once they were married, Ann joined Gene at his home church in Ralph, Bethel Baptist. They resided in Fosters where they raised their three children. Ann worked at Myrtlewood Elementary School for ten years and later at the Vetereans Affairs Medical Center for another twenty years. While there, she earned an Associate Degree from Shelton State Community College. Ann loved the Lord and enjoyed reading and studying her Bible. She also enjoyed needlepoint, gardening and having her family around her. Pallbearers are Nathan Poole, Josh Poole, Charlie Garner, Robert Bowers, Christopher Bowers, Randy Glover, Jarrod Snipes, Cody Snipes, Tristan Pol, Trevor McCulley, Jason Jacobs and Wesley Jacobs. Honorary pallbearers are Charles Ballard, Robert Ballard, Sharon Bailey, Delois Brown, Don Edge, Karen Ballard-Sohayda, David Ballard, Ricky Ballard, Rodney Ballard, Charlotte Strickland, Pam Cochran, Jimmie Carol Snipes, Jackie Wittke, Denise Glover-Chenoweth, tammy Poole, Peggy Poole, Timmie King, Carla King, Patti Poole, Wayne Mozingo, Lynn Christopher, Jane Wheat, Clarice Crowe, Ann Smelley, Gail Duncan, Susan Nix, Bobby Jacobs, Dr. Steven Brown and the staff of Hospice of West Alabama.
